The complete guide: methods that work in 2026, how to avoid level mismatches, and how to keep motivation alive together over time.
Here's what works today to find runners at your level — and what doesn't really work anymore.
+ Filter by level and sport, session map, auto alerts, free.
− Denser community in big cities than in rural areas.
+ If you have one handy, it's effective for your usual 5-10 friends.
− Only works if you already know runners. No discovery.
+ Structure, coaching, structured sessions. Ideal if you aim for performance.
− Annual fee and fixed slots. Before committing, try its open sessions on TriMates.
+ Long-standing communities, lots of people on paper.
− Buried posts, no level filter, random moderation. To avoid except for a small, very active local group.
For each sport (running, cycling, swimming), pick your real level. Honest > optimistic: it avoids mismatches.
Define your usual starting point and the maximum distance you're willing to travel. The map centers on it.
No more checking the app. You get an alert when a session matches your criteria (sport, level, distance, day).
Join an existing session or propose your own. The session chat lets you handle logistics before departure.
Be honest about your level — a mismatch wastes time on both sides.
Start with 1-2 trial sessions with different people before committing to a group.
Create a TriMates group with your 3-4 regular partners and enable a weekly habit. A fixed appointment holds better than ad-hoc ones.
Keep 2-3 backup partners: if one is injured or unavailable, you don't stop training.
Use the session chat for logistics (weather, schedule adjustments), not WhatsApp on the side. You'll keep the history.
