From the route to the meeting point, from GPX to weather: 6 steps to keep everyone aligned, without re-engaging 15 times on WhatsApp.
Everything to anticipate, in the order it shows up.
Distance, elevation, road type (open road, greenway, gravel). Plot the route on Komoot, Strava or RideWithGPS, then export as GPX.
Average pace (e.g. 28 km/h flat, 25 km/h hilly), level (chill / progression / push). Avoid "all levels" which means nothing.
"Propose a session" button on the home. Enter sport (cycling), title, date, exact starting point, distance, elevation, level, max participants. Upload the GPX.
Share button: WhatsApp, SMS, email, Telegram, or copy the link. The page is public, no account needed to view the session.
The day before: weather, schedule adjustments if needed, who brings what. The built-in chat keeps history for future sessions.
Before leaving, do a quick verbal check: route, target pace, regrouping points (top of climbs, midway, at refueling stops), weather. Everyone leaves aligned.
Unlike a run where you can adapt in real time, a cycling session follows a precise route. The GPX is non-negotiable beyond 30 km.
1000 m of elevation over 80 km is a totally different effort than 200 m. Always specify elevation in the session: that's what cyclists check first.
On a bike, you ride single file or in pairs. Wind noise makes communication hard: everything must be aligned BEFORE departure, not during.
Specify recommended bike type (road, gravel, MTB) and whether you expect aero bars or not. Avoid surprises at the meeting point.
Announcing "25 km/h" without specifying flat or hilly. The feel is radically different.
Forgetting to upload the GPX. Beyond 30 km, no one will memorize your route.
Setting a max number too high (> 12). Beyond that, the group splits at the first real climb.
Not planning a refueling stop midway. An 80 km session without a bakery break = guaranteed mutiny.
Cancelling at 7am for a 9am session. If the weather is borderline, decide the night before at the latest.
Free account, session created in 2 minutes, GPX importable in 1 click.
